The annual entertainment industry event, the 62nd Baeksang Arts Awards, was grandly held on May 8. The winners of the “Popularity Award,” which is decided entirely by fan votes, were announced ahead of time. Among female stars, Girls’ Generation member Yoona took the crown in dominating fashion, while among male stars, Park Ji-hoon defeated strong opponents to win the award.
This year’s female popularity award was nearly a landslide, with Yoona, starring in the K-drama “The Chef of the Tyrant”, leading the voting from the very start and ultimately winning with an overwhelming 58.1% of the vote, almost double that of second-place Son Ye-jin’s 26.9%. In addition to the Popularity Award, Yoona is also nominated for Best Actress in the television category, making her potential wins highly anticipated.
The competition for the male popularity award was fierce. Park Ji-hoon, formerly of project boy group Wanna One and now an actor, was nominated for Best New Actor in the film category for his role in “The King's Letter.” He was neck and neck in votes against Lee Jun-ho, who sparked conversation with his appearance in “King the Land.” After a tight voting race, Park Ji-hoon ultimately came out on top.
This year’s Baeksang awards show is hosted by Shin Dong-yup, Park Bo-gum, and Suzy. The Best Actor award is highly contested, with powerful stars such as Ryu Seung-ryong, Hyun Bin, Lee Jun-ho, Park Jin-young, and Ji Sung all vying for the trophy; while the Best Actress category, featuring Kim Go-eun, Park Bo-young, Park Ji-hyun, Shin Hye-sun, and Yoona, is considered a 'group of death.' The awards ceremony will commence grandly at 6:50 pm.
