Car Crashes into Fans in Liverpool, Perpetrator Arrested for Attempted Murder and Drug Driving

The Merseyside Police in the UK stated on the 27th that the man who drove into fans in Liverpool city center recently has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and drug driving.

Detective Chief Superintendent Jon Drewhol at the press conference said that the 53-year-old suspect comes from West Derby, Merseyside, and was detained after the incident on the 26th. The police are currently interrogating him.

Merseyside Police Deputy Chief Constable Sims said there is no information to suggest the incident was premeditated, nor are the police treating it as a terrorist attack. The incident resulted in more than 50 people being sent to the hospital for treatment, with 11 still receiving medical care.

Sims mentioned that the suspect followed an ambulance that was dealing with a sudden heart attack on the scene, which led him to cross the police blockade at Walter Street.

UK King Charles III and Queen Consort Camilla issued a statement on the 27th expressing their shock and sorrow over the tragedy in Liverpool.

In Liverpool city center on the local time of the 26th, a car incidentally crashed into fans, with the vehicle being stopped at the scene. At the time, tens of thousands of fans were celebrating Liverpool's victory in the Premier League along the street.
