(Kuching, 27th) The 2025 Jabat Sejagat Festival (Festival Jabat Sejagat 2025) has become the largest platform for exchange, bringing together various martial arts styles, schools, and martial artists of different generations. It serves as a stage to showcase the beauty of Malay martial arts (Silat), promotes the exchange of knowledge and experience, and strengthens camaraderie and networking among martial arts organizations and communities.
The President of the Sarawak National Malay Association (Persatuan Kebangsaan Melayu Sarawak, PKMS), Dato' Wan Ali Tunku Madhi, pointed out that the association shoulders the important mission of promoting Islam, Malay customs, culture, and traditional heritage, ensuring the continuity of these values in the face of changing times and maintaining their contemporary significance.
He said that in line with the association’s objective of preserving Malay customs and culture, PKMS actively supports and encourages the organization of cultural activities such as the Jabat Sejagat Festival to strengthen the development and transmission of Malay martial arts.
"This is aimed at ensuring that Sarawak’s Malay martial arts heritage can be passed down through generations, becoming a symbol of ethnic identity, unity, and cultural strength."
He expressed pride that PKMS is able to participate, as all sides share the same goal—elevating Malay martial arts as an important cultural heritage and nurturing a new generation of martial artists with discipline, good character, and competitiveness.
He spoke on this matter at last night’s Jabat Sejagat Festival 2025 dinner held here.
He added that protecting and promoting Malay martial arts is not only about preserving cultural heritage, but also about providing an important platform to educate the younger generation to respect their traditional roots, cultivate discipline, build noble character, and foster a strong sense of self-identity.
During the dinner, PKMS also presented the "Distinguished Martial Arts Contributor Award" (Anugerah Tokoh Jasawan Silat) to the Vice President of the Sarawak Silat Federation (Rumpun Silat Sarawak), Mohamed Alli Zainudin, in recognition of his contributions and dedication to the field of martial arts.
