(Miri, 12th) Sarawak Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Dr. Sim Kui Hian stated that plastic is one of the largest types of waste globally and is also a carcinogenic element. Therefore, through the event, transforming this plastic into a useful material is something unmatched by other regions in Sarawak.
He said, today I am here not only to congratulate the winners but to commend the 15,000 people who worked together to achieve the goal, converting waste into something useful and thereby saving the planet, making it the first record in Malaysia and globally, which is truly commendable.
Sim Kui Hian made these remarks during the closing ceremony of the Guinness World Record for the most eco bricks donated within 24 hours at the Miri Stadium.
He also thanked the participants for their contributions, noting that gathering 15,000 people together is not easy, but the record is just a piece of paper, and continued efforts are needed to bring sustainable development.
He mentioned that when he returns to Kuching, he will also try to conduct similar activities to contribute to environmental protection.
“The Sarawak ID ‘K’ brings greater benefits to everyone, aiming for prosperity by 2030, but we must ensure that all can benefit,” he added.
He also said that Sarawakians are fortunate because this year, university students receive an allowance of RM1200 , and next year they can study in Sarawak for free, which is unique to Sarawak.
