Pahang State Assembly Deputy Speaker Lee Cheng Heng stated that the eighth ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly Advisory Council on Dangerous Drugs, organized by the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly, is being held in Kuantan today for a two-day event.
Lee Cheng Heng mentioned that since Malaysia is the rotating chair of ASEAN, most ASEAN meetings will be held in Malaysia. Through the vigorous efforts of the Pahang State Assembly, the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly Secretariat decided to entrust the hosting rights to the Pahang State Assembly. This is the first time the Pahang State Assembly is hosting such an international event.
He stated in a press release today that the conference will have three parliamentarians from each of the 10 ASEAN countries participating. In addition to drug issues, the focus of the discussions will also include transnational fraud cases and other problems faced by ASEAN countries.
“According to the agenda, the conference will focus on extending the duties of parliament, enhancing the role of parliament in legislation, supervision, and resource integration in drug prevention. There will also be in-depth discussions on responses to transnational crime, especially transnational fraud and human trafficking, which require cooperation among ASEAN governments to resolve.”
He said the Pahang State Assembly obtaining the hosting rights of the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly Advisory Council on Dangerous Drugs not only showcases Pahang's strength to ASEAN representatives but also introduces Pahang's tourism attractions to them. Therefore, the conference has specially arranged for representatives from various countries to visit major attractions in Kuantan and Pekan after the meeting, allowing them to see the beauty of Pahang.
He believes the successful hosting of this international conference will undoubtedly enhance Pahang's influence domestically and internationally, bringing greater potential for Pahang's future.
