Thailand and Cambodia confirmed on the 9th that they have shortened each other's citizens' entry stay period.

Thailand's Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson, Nikon Devakula, stated at a press conference held in Bangkok on the 9th, in response to related questions, that Thailand is aware of Cambodia's announcement to shorten the stay period for Thai citizens entering Cambodia and has implemented reciprocal measures, reducing Cambodian citizens' stay period to 7 days.

He said it is not yet certain how long this reciprocal measure will last.

According to previous Thai media reports, Thailand has already shortened the daily opening hours and weekly open days at some border checkpoints between the two countries.

Cambodia's Ministry of Interior deputy spokesperson, Nuth Sokhom, confirmed to the media in Phnom Penh on the 9th that Cambodia has reduced the stay period for Thai citizens entering by land from 60 days to 7 days, while air travelers can currently still receive a 14-day visa. From June 10, the visa period for air travelers will be extended to 60 days.

Nuth Sokhom stated that Cambodia has also restricted the opening times at border checkpoints between the two countries.

On May 28, the Cambodian and Thai military had a brief conflict in a disputed border area, with the exchange of fire lasting about 10 minutes, resulting in the death of a Cambodian soldier. The Cambodian-Thai Joint Border Committee is scheduled to hold talks on border issues on June 14 in Cambodia's capital, Phnom Penh.
