On August 19, the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council held a regular press conference. Spokesperson Zhu Fenglian, when introducing this year's summer cross-strait cultural activities, said: “Today is the Qixi Festival. We wish all lovers on both sides of the Strait to become partners and live happily ever after.”
She said, from August 18 to 21, the "Love Across the Strait, Ties Across the Strait" 2026 5th Cross-Strait Qixi Hand-in-Hand Event is being held in Huli District, Xiamen City, Fujian Province, where more than 400 young people and compatriots from Taiwan have gathered. Through activities such as a group wedding ceremony, Qixi matchmaking and social gatherings for single young men and women, and themed tours exploring the shared cultural origins of Fujian and Taiwan, young people from both sides of the Strait are jointly witnessing encounters, romances, and happy unions.
To deepen cross-strait exchanges on marriage and romance culture and build a bridge for emotional integration among compatriots from both sides, the Taiwan Affairs Office of the People's Government of Huli District, Xiamen City, Fujian Province, is hosting the 5th Cross-Strait Qixi Hand-in-Hand Event.
The core segment will take place on August 19 (the Qixi Festival, the 7th day of the 7th lunar month) from 5:30 pm to 10:00 pm, featuring a solemn and warm mass wedding ceremony. Simultaneously, cross-strait matchmaking for unmarried youth and a Minnan dialect singing competition and other activities will also be held.
