(Miri, 14th) The 6th Division of the Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department held a launch ceremony for the "Charity Run with Firefighters 8.0" event at the Sunflower Special Children Centre in Miri today.

The guest of honor, Miri Mayor YB Adam Yii, stated in his speech that this event is one of Miri’s most meaningful running events, attracting numerous citizens to participate actively each year. Aside from temporary suspension during the pandemic, the Firefighter Charity Run has become an annual grand event, bringing positive impacts to the community.

He pointed out that part of the income from this event will be donated to the Sunflower Special Children Centre to support the rehabilitation and education work for special children. The city council will also arrange for staff to visit the Sunflower Centre to provide necessary assistance, demonstrating the government’s care for socially vulnerable groups.

Adam Yii praised the Miri Fire Department for its contributions to the community, as firefighters not only fulfill their duties in fire rescue but also handle various emergencies efficiently, such as catching snakes, clearing beehives, rescuing trapped animals, etc., always responding promptly to citizens’ calls for help, exhibiting a high sense of responsibility and professionalism.

He urged citizens to actively participate in this charity run event, which not only enhances physical fitness but also contributes to public welfare efforts, jointly creating a more loving and safer community.

The aforementioned event will be grandly held on May 25th (Sunday) at the open space in front of the Miri City Council building, aiming to attract 1600 runners to participate. Proceeds from the event will be donated to Miri's Sunflower Child Development Centre to provide assistance to vulnerable groups.
