(Miri, 14th) - Miri Member of Parliament Chiew Choon Man and the Director of the Malaysia Mineral and Geoscience Department (JMG), Dato' Datuk Zamri bin Ramli , along with representatives from NRES and NADMA, conducted a field inspection of the landslide areas around Kampung Lereng Bukit and Kampung Haji Wahid this morning. The purpose of this visit was to further understand the methods JMG will use in conducting slope safety and landslide risk assessment studies in the area from a technical perspective.
He stated that throughout the visit, the Joint Geological Survey Bureau and experts and technicians provided detailed explanations about the slope conditions, soil types, and the landslide occurrences around the hills. They also explained several factors leading to landslides, geological structures, underground water flow, and weather conditions. During this sharing session, several suggestions were made as references to solve this problem. I am very grateful for the high level of commitment and professional knowledge contributed by all participants.
"As the Member of Parliament for Miri, I will continue to collaborate with the relevant ministries and agencies to secure adequate financial support and grants. This move is crucial to ensure that any recommended solutions can be fully implemented to prevent tragedies from recurring and to safeguard the well-being of the affected residents. I also welcome JMG to provide a complete report once the study is concluded. The report results will be the main guide for taking more targeted and effective follow-up actions."
He also said, I will continue to closely monitor the progress of this study to ensure its outcomes truly benefit the citizens. We are very concerned about the safety and well-being of the community in the above two locations and surrounding areas. We will continue to strive to find the best solution until the residents' lives are secured and free from the dangers of landslides.
