On the 16th, Thailand's Foreign Ministry Deputy Spokesperson Maratee reiterated the three conditions that Cambodia must meet before Thailand enters ceasefire negotiations.
At a press conference on the Thai-Cambodian border situation held that day, she stated that as the invading party, Cambodia must first announce a ceasefire. Secondly, the ceasefire must be genuine and lasting, not a temporary one after which conflict reignites. Cambodia must also cooperate with mine clearance with a "serious and sincere attitude."
Regarding calls from relevant countries for Thailand and Cambodia to negotiate a ceasefire, Maratee pointed out that Thailand has always clearly stated its position through the Prime Minister, Foreign Minister, and the Foreign Ministry spokesperson.
According to data released by the Thai side, as of the morning of the 16th, this round of Thai-Cambodian conflict has resulted in 33 Thai soldiers and civilians dead.
A press release issued by Cambodia's Ministry of Interior on the 16th also stated that the Cambodian-Thai border conflict had entered its tenth day, causing more than 430,000 Cambodians to be displaced and extensive damage to civilian infrastructure. Attacks by Thailand have caused the deaths of 17 Cambodian civilians.
Thailand Plans to Charter Flights to Bring Back Citizens Stranded in Cambodia
In addition, on the 16th, Thailand's National Security Council stated that Thailand will arrange charter flights to bring back Thai citizens stranded in Cambodia.
Thachai, Secretary-General of the National Security Council of Thailand, said the council had instructed the Foreign Ministry to coordinate arrangements for Thai nationals stranded in Cambodia to return to Thailand by charter flights.
Currently, there are still 5,000 to 6,000 Thai people stranded on the Cambodian side of the Poipet border crossing between Thailand and Cambodia.
Thai Army Undertakes Ground Troop Advance at Border
According to a briefing by Cambodia's Ministry of Defense on the 16th, the Thai army on that day undertook ground force advances, heavy weapon attacks, drone bombings, release of chemical smoke, as well as F-16 fighter airstrikes at the Cambodia-Thailand border, continuing attacks on several regions of Cambodia. The Cambodian military is closely monitoring the situation and remains on high alert.
