KUCHING: Klinik Kesihatan (KK) Jalan Masjid has extended its operating hours on a six-month trial basis starting Monday to help ease congestion at the Green Zone of Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) Emergency Department.
Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian said the clinic, which normally operates from 8.00 am to 5.00 pm on weekdays, will also now open from 5.00 pm to 9.00 pm, Monday to Friday, and from 9.00 am to 1.00 pm on Saturdays.
He noted that KK Jalan Masjid is the only clinic in Sarawak offering such extended hours, describing it as an innovative initiative by the Ministry of Health Malaysia to improve patient flow.
“One of the objectives is to encourage patients with non-serious conditions to seek treatment at the clinic instead of the SGH Emergency Department, thereby reducing overcrowding,” he said in a Facebook post today (Feb 6).
KK Jalan Masjid, one of the oldest Type 3 clinics in Kuching, is fully equipped with medical facilities.
During the extended hours, three doctors will be on duty, supported by nurses, pharmacists and medical assistants.
The service caters to patients with acute or semi-emergency conditions such as fever, cough, flu, abdominal pain, urinary and skin infections, minor injuries, mild allergic reactions, new animal bites, and mild asthma attacks.
Routine care, including chronic disease follow-ups, antenatal and infant check-ups, wound dressing, suture removal, repeat medication, health screenings, and specialist or non-emergency hospital appointments, remains available during normal clinic hours.
KK Jalan Masjid also uses a Cloud-Based Clinic Management System (CCMS) and leads the Kuching Division in online (cashless) transactions among the 22 clinics providing this service, despite the nominal RM1 fee.
Members of the public with minor ailments are encouraged to use the extended hours for consultations as part of efforts to improve healthcare accessibility while easing pressure on hospital emergency services.
