The launch and naming ceremony for the first 076 amphibious assault ship independently developed and built by China was held in Shanghai.
According to Xinhua News Agency, with the approval of the Central Military Commission, the first 076 amphibious assault ship has been named "People's Liberation Army Navy Sichuan Ship," with the hull number "51."
The Sichuan Ship has a full load displacement of over 40,000 tons, featuring dual-island superstructures and a full-through flight deck. It innovatively applies electromagnetic catapult and arresting technologies, can carry fixed-wing aircraft, helicopters, amphibious equipment, and more. It is the new generation amphibious assault ship for the navy and a key piece of equipment for promoting naval transformation, development, and enhancing long-range combat capabilities.
After the ship is launched, it will proceed with planned equipment debugging, mooring trials, and sea trials.
At around 10 a.m., the launch and naming ceremony was held at the Shanghai Hudong Zhonghua Shipyard. Relevant navy leaders participating in the ceremony read the Central Military Commission's order granting the ship's name and hull number, presented the naming certificate to the receiving ship unit, and cut the ribbon for the launch of the first 076 amphibious assault ship, followed by a bottle throwing ceremony.
