Cancellation of Free Toll during Festivals, Minister: Future Discounts will continue at 50%

Minister of Works, Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi, stated that the toll fees during festivals this year will continue to enjoy a 50% discount, replacing the previously implemented full exemption policy.

He mentioned that this move will reduce the cost the government pays to concession companies from RM180 million to RM80 million annually.

He said this 50% toll discount will be the same as before, with 8 days of discount provided during each festive season annually.

“During the Lunar New Year, we provide a 50% discount because the government believes the public still needs this benefit during festive periods.”

“Therefore, we have decided to implement this policy during major festivals this year, including the upcoming Eid.”

He made this statement today while inspecting the Federal Route FT05 in Sabak Bernam-Sungai Besar, Selangor.

Alexander further mentioned that the decision to provide discounts for each festival has been approved by the Cabinet.

“The Cabinet can make adjustments or changes to the decision as needed. Fortunately, the government still decided to offer partial benefits instead of completely canceling them.”

“It must be made clear that all (toll discount) costs are borne by the government, not the concession companies. Therefore, I hope the public understands that this 50% toll discount also comes from taxpayers’ money.”
