Prime Minister Dato' Seri Anwar said that our country should not rush to respond to the uncertainties of geopolitical and economic developments, including the policies announced by US President Trump.
He stated that Trump decided to change policy yesterday morning by announcing a temporary suspension on tariffs for Canadian and Mexican goods instead of continuing the previously planned policy.
“In the coming month, the policy may change, or it may remain the same.”
Just hours before the deadline for imposing tariffs on goods from Mexico, Canada, and China, US President Trump signed an executive order to delay the tariffs on Mexican and Canadian goods, postponing their implementation until March 4, 2025.
The Prime Minister expressed this during a parliamentary Q&A session today.
He said that our country will continue to maintain a cooperative relationship with the United States because our policy is based on ASEAN's principle of neutrality, which means that our country will maintain a neutral stance and establish cooperative relationships with all countries.
Although our relations with China, Brazil, South Africa, Canada, and Mexico may seem close, Malaysia practices a neutral policy and is striving to build relationships with other countries, such as South Africa and Latin America, in the hope of bringing new investment opportunities and expanding export markets to promote economic growth.
