(Bandar Seri Begawan, 11th) Brunei Red Crescent Society (BRC) plays a crucial role in providing and conducting voluntary emergency aid services as well as ensuring the safety of life and property during wars, disasters, and disease outbreaks.
Even in times of peace and stability, the Red Crescent Society is committed to strengthening community resilience in various fields such as public health, mental health, disaster preparedness, and caring for vulnerable groups affected by current phenomena and urgent issues.
In her speech at the 77th anniversary celebration of the society and World Red Cross and Red Crescent Day held at the society’s knowledge center, BRC President Laila Dookim emphasized: “Our duty is intrinsically to provide humanitarian assistance to those in need at any time.”
Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports Dato Nazmi participated as the guest of honor at the ceremony, presiding over the issuance of appointment certificates to members of the National Committee and Council of Brunei Red Crescent Academy, and the presentation of accreditation certificates to its registered training institutions.
The Red Crescent Society also collaborated with various government agencies, the private sector, and non-governmental organizations to assist in establishing a COVID-19 volunteer group.
She added, “I am genuinely excited and immensely proud of the contributions made by the Red Crescent Society; their members have dedicated their time and resources, even risking their lives to serve.”
The theme for World Red Cross and Red Crescent Day 2025 is global humanitarian issues, about which she expressed concern over the increasing number of human rights violations that continue to challenge international humanitarian law.
She further stated, “As members of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies and the International Committee of the Red Cross in Geneva, the Brunei Red Crescent Society stands firmly with global citizens in condemning the atrocities of the Israeli regime.”
She also noted that the Brunei Red Crescent Society donated BND 1,000 to the 2023 Humanitarian Fund for the People of Gaza, Palestine. This small donation and heartfelt prayers aim to support the people of Gaza in continuing their lives and realizing the sovereignty and independence of their homeland.
At the event, Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports Dato Nazmi awarded appointment and commendation certificates and accepted the donation to the 2023 Humanitarian Fund established for the people of Gaza, Palestine from the Chairman of the Brunei Red Crescent Society.
