Mainland's Taiwan Affairs Office Lists Two Taiwanese Ministers as 'Stubborn Taiwan Independence Elements'

Mainland China has taken further action, with State Council Taiwan Affairs Office spokesperson Chen Binhua announcing at a regular press conference on the 7th that Taiwan's Minister of the Interior Liu Shyh-fang and Minister of Education Cheng Ying-yao have been listed as 'stubborn Taiwan independence elements,' and that related punitive measures will be taken in accordance with the law. In addition, Taiwan High Prosecutors Office prosecutor Chen Shu-yi has been listed as an 'accomplice enforcer of Taiwan independence,' with a vow to 'hold them accountable for life according to law.'

At the first press conference of 2026 held by the Taiwan Affairs Office on the 7th, Chen Binhua first announced that Liu Shyh-fang and Cheng Ying-yao had been listed as stubborn Taiwan independence elements and given sanctions such as being banned from entering Mainland China; prosecutor Chen Shu-yi was identified as an accomplice enforcer of Taiwan independence. Chen Binhua stated that Liu and Cheng have committed egregious acts of Taiwan independence, and many citizens have reported them to the Taiwan Affairs Office, requesting punishment and inclusion in the list of stubborn Taiwan independence elements, prohibiting them and their families from entering the Mainland, Hong Kong, and Macau, restricting their associated institutions from cooperating with organizations and individuals in the Mainland, absolutely forbidding their associated businesses and financial backers from seeking profits in the Mainland, and that all other necessary punitive measures will be taken, holding them accountable for life according to law.

Chen Binhua stated that Liu Shyh-fang has blatantly promoted the fallacy of Taiwan independence and separatism, fiercely suppressed Taiwanese individuals who support and participate in cross-strait exchanges and cooperation, and persecuted spouses from Mainland China living in Taiwan; Cheng Ying-yao has incited independence-seeking rhetoric and provocations, organized and compiled Taiwan independence teaching materials, and obstructed cross-strait educational exchanges and cooperation.

Chen Binhua then announced a second decision, listing Chen Shu-yi as an accomplice enforcer of Taiwan independence, to be held legally accountable for life. He pointed out that Chen Shu-yi fabricated charges, persecuted Taiwanese individuals who support or participate in cross-strait exchanges and cooperation, and created 'green terror,' and that the search for evidence and leads on Chen Shu-yi’s violations will continue.

Chen Binhua further explained that there are currently 14 people made public as stubborn Taiwan independence elements and 12 as accomplice enforcers of Taiwan independence, emphasizing that any Taiwan independence elements who break the law—no matter where they are—will face all necessary measures, be punished in accordance with the law, and held accountable for life.
