South Korean President Lee Jae-myung, who is currently visiting China, stated during a dinner with Chen Jining, Secretary of the Shanghai Municipal Party Committee, on the 6th in Shanghai that the neighborly and friendly feelings between the peoples of the two countries are of utmost importance in China-Korea relations.
Lee Jae-myung pointed out that, for a long time, due to some unfounded and unnecessary misunderstandings, distortions, and mistakes, mutual perception between the peoples of China and Korea has generally deteriorated, which in turn has hindered the development of China-Korea relations on many levels. Therefore, starting now, both sides should do their best to eliminate misunderstandings and strive to deepen the friendly feelings between the two countries; if there are some contradictions or conflicting factors, efforts should be made to overcome them, maximize mutually beneficial factors, and strive to become good neighbors to each other. Both countries should work together to eliminate the so-called 'anti-Korean' and 'anti-Chinese' sentiments.
Looking ahead, Lee Jae-myung hopes that this visit to China will not only push China-Korea relations to new heights but also serve as a good opportunity to resolve discord. Lee Jae-myung also stated that Shanghai is a city he has always wanted to visit. During the period when Korea lost its national sovereignty, predecessors chose Shanghai as the base for fighting for independence and liberation, giving Shanghai special significance.
