Hit by severe weather, a Batik Air passenger plane made a tilted landing at Jakarta's Soekarno-Hatta International Airport on the 28th, narrowly avoiding an accident.
According to Indonesian media reports, the aircraft, a Boeing 737, was landing amid wind and rain. The incident resulted in no casualties.
Videos posted on social media show the aircraft landing on the runway at a noticeably tilted angle, with captions stating that one engine of the plane "almost touched the runway."
The Batik Air management released a written statement on the 29th, saying the plane was experiencing heavy rain during landing and that crosswind speeds suddenly increased as the aircraft approached the runway.
“The landing process was safe and fully adhered to standard flight operating procedures... At that time, the wind speed did not exceed the maximum limit, so the aircraft was still in a safe landing condition.”
According to the statement, after landing, a technical team conducted a comprehensive inspection of the aircraft, which showed no damage and confirmed the plane was airworthy and safe.
Due to the extreme weather, multiple other flights scheduled to land had to circle in the air, waiting for the weather to improve.
