Local director Lee Zijian has released his directorial debut film, 'Stay Together Well', which incorporates the history of the Fuzhou people in Sarawak and the region’s diverse local cultures. The film features Chinese child star Jin Mengyi, with hopes of bringing the story to an international stage.
Lee Zijian entered the film and television industry in 1997, initially working as a producer before getting involved in film production, and this marks his first time as a director.
On Wednesday night, together with three actors from the film—Luo Yishi, Gu Tianfa, and Chinese child star Jin Mengyi—Lee attended a special screening event held at Mega Cinema in Butterworth. He announced that 'Stay Together Well' has successfully been nominated as an entry in the 2nd Macau International Children’s Film Festival.
He stated that, in order to broaden the film’s influence, he especially invited the enthusiastic participation of Chinese child star Jin Mengyi, hoping the story would resonate with Chinese audiences and allow them to see how Sarawak still preserves the authentic Fuzhou culture.
He pointed out that this film, based on the director’s own real life experiences, has received a great response since its release on May 29, for a month and a half now, and he expressed gratitude for the enthusiastic support from local audiences.
He shared that he has always had a special resonance with the theme of “home,” and his first feature film, 'Stay Together Well,' is a response to dreams and belonging.
He said that the film took over two years to prepare, with a one-month shooting period and a post-production process lasting a year and a half.
Before the screening, many local movie fans eagerly took photos with the local director Lee Zijian and the three actors Luo Yishi, Gu Tianfa, and Jin Mengyi.
Among those who watched the movie that evening were Sungai Puyu State Assemblyman Phee Teik Chee, Bukit Tambun State Assemblyman Goh Choon Aik, President of the Global Chinese Overseas Peace Association of Malaysia Huang Suling, Vice President Lin Jingshan, Deputy Chairman of Donghai Temple in New Bagan, Butterworth Chen Baiyou, President of Tongxin Brothers Charity Association Xie Zhengyi, Vice President of Penang International Junior Chamber Chen Jingxiang, and Youth League Chairman of Penang Teochew Association Yan Huizhen, among others.
