(Singapore, 13th) – At the invitation of Singapore's Foreign Minister Vivian Balakrishnan, Laos’ Foreign Minister Saleumxay Kommasith paid an official visit to Singapore from August 11 to 12. Both countries reaffirmed their commitment to deepening cooperation in areas such as trade and investment, human resource development, food security, clean energy, carbon trading, and volunteer programs.
The two foreign ministers held talks at Singapore’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, reviewing the progress of past bilateral and multilateral cooperation and discussing future directions. Both sides expressed satisfaction with the steady development of friendly relations and cooperation over the past 51 years, pointing out that high-level visits and increasingly close people-to-people exchanges are key factors in strengthening bilateral relations.
During the meeting, both countries acknowledged the successful celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Laos-Singapore diplomatic relationship in 2024, with rich and meaningful activities that further deepened long-standing friendship. Both sides also pledged to promote cooperation in various fields and strengthen partnerships within ASEAN and other regional and international frameworks.
On behalf of the Lao government and people, Saleumxay expressed sincere gratitude to the Singapore government and people for their long-term support, especially in cooperation on human resource training and capacity building. He also extended 60th National Day greetings and best wishes to the people of Singapore, expressing hope for the country's continued peace, prosperity, and success.
