CYBERJAYA, July 21 (Bernama) -- Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has called for improvements to the Immigration Officer Service Scheme in recognition of the Immigration Department's significant contribution to the country.

Ahmad Zahid said he supported Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail’s call for the government to enhance the scheme through the restructuring of strategic posts and the expansion of career pathways.

He said Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar and Public Service director-general Tan Sri Wan Ahmad Dahlan Abdul Aziz should give due consideration to the proposal.

“I fully support the Home Minister's request, and it deserves careful consideration by the Chief Secretary to the Government and the Public Service director-general.

“The Immigration Department is the country’s third-largest revenue-generating agency, and its officers deserve recognition for their contributions,” he said in his speech at the 2026 Immigration Day celebration, themed ‘Charting a New Face of Immigration’, today.

Saifuddin Nasution made the call for improvements to the Immigration Officer Service Scheme in his opening speech earlier.

Meanwhile, Ahmad Zahid urged Immigration personnel to continue carrying out their duties with integrity as the nation’s frontline guardians, while avoiding any controversy that could undermine national sovereignty.

“As the first line of defence protecting the country's sovereignty, carry out this responsibility with courage and wisdom.

“Serve not because someone is watching, but because every action is a trust bestowed upon us by the nation. The future of an institution is determined not by the challenges it faces, but by the courage of its people to overcome them,” he added.
