G7 Summit Concludes Without Joint Communiqué for Second Consecutive Year

The three-day G7 Summit concluded on the 17th in Évian-les-Bains, France, without the release of a joint communiqué by the leaders.

This marks the first time since the 2025 G8 Summit in Kananaskis, Canada, that the G7 has once again failed to reach a joint communiqué.

During the summit, nine outcome documents focusing on specific topics were released successively, covering areas such as geopolitics, economic growth, and public health.

It is reported that during the preparatory phase of the summit, efforts to reach a joint communiqué were abandoned, with the strategy shifting to issuing outcome documents on individual topics to avoid highlighting a series of differences between the US and its allies.

French President Emmanuel Macron stated during a post-summit press conference that the G7 had reached a series of consensuses on the Ukraine crisis, the Middle East situation, addressing global economic imbalances, and critical minerals.

He stated that US President Trump and other leaders present at the summit all acknowledged that Russia does not wish to end the war with Ukraine. He said this demonstrates a “real shift” in the US’s position on the Russia-Ukraine war.

He also said that this G7 Summit was a success, noting that previous months were “rife with division, disagreements, and disputes,” whereas this summit was “a moment of unity, meaningful discussions, and genuine cooperation among the attending leaders.”

However, he also acknowledged differences between the US and the other six G7 countries on issues such as climate and the United Nations multilateral system.

The Group of Seven consists of the United States, United Kingdom, France, Germany, Italy, Canada, and Japan. France is this year’s rotating president of the G7.
