Service Fee Imposed at Strait of Hormuz: Iranian Speaker Says 'Never Returning to Previous State'

Iranian Parliament Speaker Ghalibaf stated on the 17th that the Strait of Hormuz will "never return to its previous state," and that Iran will impose service fees at the Strait of Hormuz.

He reiterated that after the 60-day free passage period stipulated in the memorandum of understanding signed with the United States comes to an end, Iran will begin charging fees to vessels passing through the Strait of Hormuz.

In an interview broadcast on Iranian national television, he said, "The Strait of Hormuz will not return to its pre-war condition. Iran holds sovereignty over the Strait of Hormuz, and we will, of course, charge a service fee."

Mechanism with Oman Essentially Finalized

Meanwhile, on the 18th, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Baghaei stated that Iran and Oman have essentially finalized the management mechanism for the Strait of Hormuz and will charge fees for services provided in the Strait.

He said that, at present, the relevant procedural arrangements are being drafted.
