A large highway sign on the roadside in the Thong Pha Phum area, Kanchanaburi Province, Thailand, has been covered with stickers by tourists and has become an unofficial tourist 'check-in spot.' Authorities are urging visitors to stop this behavior.

According to the Bangkok Post, local highway chief Apirak issued a warning on the 8th, stating that those responsible may face legal action.

He said: “Tourists not only stick stickers on the columns, but also climb up onto the overpass to stick stickers on the Ban Pilok road sign. Tourists often park here to take photos, and the road sign has already become a 'check-in spot.'”

He emphasized that these 'sticker enthusiasts' not only damage government property and obstruct the visibility of road signs, but also violate highway regulations.

He stated that offenders could be sentenced to up to 6 months in prison, or fined 10,000 baht (approximately 1,294 ringgit), or both. This kind of behavior endangers their own safety and damages the environment.

The authorities will erect signage forbidding the public from sticking stickers on road signs or climbing road signs.

Thong Pha Phum is close to the Myanmar border and is a small village located in a valley. The relevant road sign is on Highway 2372's overpass, alerting drivers that they are approaching Ban Pilok Village.
