Celebrating Three Decades of Glory: Chan Teck Yi Encourages Legacy and New Beginnings

(Miri, 5th) Miri Chan Clan Association Deputy President and 30th Anniversary Celebration Organizing Chairman, Chan Teck Yi, stated that tonight’s celebration is not only a tribute to the past thirty years, but also a starting point towards the future thirty, sixty, or even a hundred years. He poignantly pointed out that the success of the celebration is the result of the collective effort of all clan members, committee directors, and organizing team members, symbolizing the unity and spirit of legacy within the Chan family.
He expressed these sentiments during the speech at the “Tracing·Inheriting” 30th Anniversary Banquet of the Miri Chan Clan Association held last night at the Imperial Palace Hotel Miri.
Chan Teck Yi noted that thirty years is a precious milestone. Although he has not been with the association since its founding, his fourteen to fifteen years of service have been a deeply meaningful journey in his life. "How many thirty years does one have in their life? We are not merely celebrating the past—we must also march towards the future and create another glorious thirty years for the Clan Association."
He recalled that the association originally planned to hold its 25th anniversary in 2020, but it was postponed due to the pandemic. "I had already been appointed as the Organizing Chairman that year, and now, finally, the 30th anniversary celebration was successfully held. My heart is full of joy and gratitude."

Chan Teck Yi thanked two successive presidents and the board for their trust in giving him the opportunity to serve twice as Organizing Chairman. "Although the task was arduous and stressful, seeing tonight’s brightly lit venue, the laughter of clan members, and the lively atmosphere, all the effort was worthwhile!"
He quipped that meetings of the Miri Chan Clan Association are like a symphony: “Though there are different voices, after harmonizing, what plays out is a moving movement of family unity and love.” He specially thanked every organizing committee member, “Thank you for your trust, perseverance, and dedication—it’s been hard work!”
He also expressed deepest gratitude to the Honorary Advisors for life, founding elders, sponsors, former presidents, and all member relatives, “Your support is the greatest motivation for the Clan Association to move forward.”

Chan Teck Yi stated, thirty years ago, a group of Chan clan elders established the Miri Chan Clan Association with enthusiasm and faith; now, that tiny seed has grown into a lush, flourishing tree. “This is ‘Tracing’—our tribute to where we came from. And the coming ‘Inheriting’ is our commitment to the future.”
He encouraged the younger generation to carry on the family spirit with creativity and new thinking, for instance by leveraging new technologies to organize online activities, enabling the Clan Association to keep up with the times while remaining true to original intentions and ancestral virtues.
“In the next thirty years, it’s not necessary for everyone to do something extraordinary—just participating in one more activity, or sharing one more story, these small contributions will become the driving force for the continued development of the Clan Association.”
He pointed out that this year’s celebration logo is rich in meaning, symbolizing that the Chan family should be as “resilient and flexible as a seahorse,” yet as “energetic as the sun,” always full of vitality, with its brilliance perpetuated by ‘people with heart.’ He thanked all the guests and clan members for their presence: “Your arrival is the warmest blessing for our big family!”
