(Kuching, 25th) The launch of Kuching as a low-carbon hub is expected to attract up to RM200 billion in investment.
Sarawak Premier, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari, stated that this launch marks a significant milestone in Sarawak's energy transition journey.
“Leveraging the momentum from the 'Sarawak Gas Roadmap,' this initiative will expand gas-generated power, ensuring Sarawak's low-carbon energy supply.”
In addition, he said that the roadmap will establish new low-carbon industry clusters, improve regional connectivity, position Kuching as the gateway to Borneo, and develop world-class carbon capture and storage (CCS) infrastructure.
Moreover, this move will unlock the potential of offshore gas development in Western Sarawak.
Abang Johari made these remarks while attending the 'Sarawak Gas Roadmap' summit organized by Sarawak Petroleum Company (PETROS) at a hotel today.
He added that the investment value is further supported by critical infrastructure such as the new deep-sea port.
“By promoting technological innovation, industrial growth, and supporting energy transition, the Kuching low-carbon hub will make Sarawak a leader in the low-carbon energy economy. This initiative is expected to be a catalyst for transformation in Sarawak, Malaysia, and the wider region.”
