(Miri News, 25th) Datuk Sebastian Ting Chiew Yew, Deputy Minister for Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts I (Tourism) revealed that Sarawak's tourism industry has performed outstandingly this year, successfully achieving the annual target of 4 million tourists by the first week of November. It is expected that with the boost from year-end festive activities and promotions, the number of tourists may exceed 4.8 million by the end of December.

In his speech at the closing ceremony of the 2024 International Diabetes and Obesity Conference this morning, he expressed that the Sarawak government is full of confidence in the development of the tourism industry and is aiming to attract 5 million tourists by 2025, while fully supporting various tourism development plans.

Datuk Sebastian Ting Chiew Yew  pointed out that to achieve this goal, the Sarawak government will allocate 174 million Malaysian Ringgit to promote Sarawak's rich tourism resources, cultural features, and natural beauty. In addition, 81 million Malaysian Ringgit will be invested to enhance and improve tourism infrastructure to ensure tourists enjoy convenient and comfortable travel experiences.

He emphasized that Sarawak's rich cultural heritage and magnificent natural landscapes are vital assets for attracting tourists. The government will continue to strive to enhance Sarawak's reputation as a global tourism hotspot, injecting new vitality into the local economy while promoting sustainable tourism development.

Datuk Sebastian Ting Chiew Yew  specifically mentioned that Sarawak currently has two natural sites listed as UNESCO World Heritage Sites, namely the Mulu National Park and the Niah National Park, which was successfully inscribed this July, both located in Miri. He hopes that guests attending the international conference will deeply feel Sarawak's hospitality, as well as its unique natural and cultural heritage charm.

He stated that Miri is not only renowned for its spectacular natural landscapes but also showcases the unique charm of multiculturalism, attracting tourists from all over the world.

In his speech,  Datuk Sebastian Ting Chiew Yew  announced that the 3rd Borneo Diabetes Seminar will be held from September 19th to 21st, 2025, at the Imperial Hotel in Miri. This will bring more international attention to Miri, further promoting the development of the local tourism industry.
