(Kuching, 15th)—A major fire broke out yesterday evening (14th) at two rows of worker dormitories near an apartment in Tabuan Heights, Kuching. The dormitories were almost completely destroyed by the blaze, but fortunately, firefighters managed to control the fire in time, successfully preventing it from spreading to the adjacent residential area. No casualties were reported.
The Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department stated that the fire occurred at approximately 6:55 PM last night.
According to reports, the fire affected two rows of non-permanent structure worker dormitories, believed to house three foreign workers. All residents were not present at the time of the incident, so there were no injuries.
Firefighters from Tabuan Jaya, Batu Lintang, and Padungan fire stations were dispatched to the scene after receiving the report.
Upon arrival, firefighters found that two rows of worker dormitories had been completely destroyed by the fire, while another row suffered about 30% damage.
The fire crew used water from a fire engine to carry out firefighting operations and initiated a fire break to successfully prevent the flames from spreading to neighboring residential areas.
The fire was brought under control at 7:34 PM, after which firefighters continued with overhaul and cooling operations to ensure there were no smoldering embers.
Once site safety was confirmed, rescue operations concluded at 10:44 PM.
The cause of the fire and the extent of property loss are currently under investigation.
