(Bandar Seri Begawan, 14th) Acting Director of the Museum, Pengiran Rosli, attended an online video conference for the launch ceremony of the Southeast Asia Collection Project's digital exhibition: Interpreting Shared Histories through Southeast Asian Marine Collections.
The meeting was hosted by Dr. Natalie from the Sydney Southeast Asia Centre (SSEAC) at the University of Sydney, with opening remarks by Carole from the ASEAN-Australia Centre (AAC).
This exhibition is supported by the ASEAN-Australia Centre of the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, with additional support from the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).
This collaborative collection project brings together experts from various institutions in Southeast Asia to celebrate and strengthen the region’s shared marine heritage. The initiative highlights the power of regional and international collaboration in heritage conservation.
By involving museums and cultural institutions across Southeast Asia, the project enriches collective understanding of maritime history while enhancing the ability to manage and interpret this shared heritage.
For Brunei, this project aligns with its mission to preserve and promote its marine heritage, contributing to broader efforts to showcase a united cultural narrative of the Southeast Asian region.
The digital exhibition will further strengthen Brunei's maritime story, ensuring its place in the global heritage conservation dialogue.
Aside from Australia's contribution, the project also includes museums from Thailand, Cambodia, the Philippines, Indonesia, and Brunei.
The initiative reflects a shared commitment to preserving and interpreting marine collections as significant cultural treasures, connecting the history and communities across the region.
