A 46-year-old Thai woman was riding a long-distance bus when, after nearly 12 hours on the road, the driver discovered she had already died suddenly in her seat. Only then did all the passengers realize they had unknowingly travelled for several hours with a corpse.
According to Thai media outlet The Thaiger, the deceased, Manassanun, boarded the long-distance bus at 7:30 p.m. on the 27th in Si Sa Ket province, heading to Phetchaburi province, 700 kilometers away.
At around 7 a.m. the following morning, as the bus arrived at a department store near its final stop, the driver informed passengers to disembark. Noticing the woman did not move, he went over to check and discovered she had already passed away.
Police and medical personnel rushed to the scene after being notified. Upon inspection, they determined the deceased had been dead for at least three hours. News of the incident left the other passengers in shock.
Manassanun's husband, Sommai, stated that his wife suffered from chronic conditions including kidney disease, diabetes, high blood pressure, and anemia. She had recently been discharged from a hospital in Si Sa Ket. He had strongly discouraged her from traveling, but she insisted on making the trip.
He said that the two of them had chatted by phone before she boarded, but when he tried to call again the next day, it was the bus driver who answered and delivered the tragic news.
After examination, medical personnel confirmed that Manassanun died of acute renal failure, which was consistent with her prior medical history.
