(Yangon, 14th) August 12th is World Elephant Day. On this day, the Wingabaw Elephant Camp in Bago Region, Myanmar, held a celebration event, prepared a fruit feast for the camp’s two male elephants, five female elephants, and one baby elephant, and opened the camp to the public, allowing people to visit, interact closely, and understand the importance of elephant conservation.

Wingabaw Elephant Camp is not only a place for rescuing and protecting elephants, but also a source of income that helps improve the lives of local communities. Camp manager U Min Saw stated that the camp aims to promote nature-based tourism focused on elephant conservation, providing tourists the opportunity to interact closely with elephants, fostering love, respect, and appreciation for these animals, while also creating jobs for the local community and driving the development of a green economy.

Official data shows that as of 2024, Myanmar has more than 6,000 elephants, of which about 3,200 are state-tamed and distributed among 23 elephant conservation camps. The Wingabaw Elephant Camp, established in 2016, specializes in rescuing and adopting "elephant orphans".
