GD Does Charity Not by Donating Money, But by Donating Song Copyrights to Establish a Foundation

Hallyu superstar GD (G-Dragon, Kwon Ji Yong) is world-renowned, and with substantial earnings to his name, he is also generous when it comes to charitable work. Every time he donates, the amount is in the hundreds of millions of Korean won. On the 27th, the Korea Heritage Administration announced a partnership with GD and the “Juspeace Foundation,” which he established. Unlike celebrities who usually make one-time cash donations, GD has directly donated the royalties of his representative works. As long as there are people willing to listen to the songs he created, this goodwill can continue indefinitely, prompting fans to exclaim, “All these years, we’ve truly loved the right person!”

In 2024, GD took the lead in founding the “Juspeace Foundation,” a name that combines “Justice” and “Peace,” symbolizing the hope to use cultural influence to drive positive social change. Different from the typical celebrity donation model, GD chose to donate the royalties from several of his iconic songs as assets of the foundation, providing a long-term and stable income stream to support ongoing charitable operations. This innovative approach has drawn significant attention. However, the foundation has not disclosed which songs or what proportion of royalties were donated, so it is not currently possible to quantify the charitable value.

Not only did GD donate song royalty income, but he also formally partnered with a South Korean government agency. On the 27th, the Korea Heritage Administration announced that it would collaborate with the “Juspeace Foundation” to promote cultural preservation and world heritage publicity activities. The most notable of these is the upcoming “48th session of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) World Heritage Committee” meeting, to be held in Busan in July. GD is expected to take part in related promotional activities, leveraging his international fame to raise global awareness of world heritage protection issues.
