As artificial intelligence (AI) generated content continues to spring up everywhere, American pop superstar Taylor Swift has applied to the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) for copyright protection of her voice and likeness; Oscar-winning actor Matthew McConaughey previously took similar steps.
Taylor Swift’s photos and voice have already appeared in a large amount of AI-generated deepfake content, including fake advertisements, false political endorsements, and explicit images. Last year, it was further revealed that a US tech company had, without permission, used the likeness of Taylor Swift and other celebrities to create dozens of flirtatious AI chatbot profiles on social platforms.
