Lai Guobao: Upholding the Spirit of 'Diligence, Harmony, Loyalty, Perseverance', Pei Min Nurtures Countless Pillars of Talent

(Miri, 14th) Dato' Sri Lai Guobao, Honorary Chairman and Distinguished Alumnus of Miri Pei Min Middle School, stated that for the past 65 years, Pei Min Middle School has always regarded 'diligence, harmony, loyalty, perseverance' as its founding principles. This is not only a school motto, but also an important spiritual guide that has directed generations of Pei Min people in conduct and behavior.

He said that many alumni, after leaving campus, have worked diligently in various fields and given back to society, which is the truest and most powerful embodiment of the Pei Min spirit.

Lai Guobao made these remarks last night as the guest of honor at the 'Pei Min United · Inheritance and Innovation' 65th anniversary thanksgiving banquet, held by Pei Min Middle School at the ballroom on the sixth floor of Pullman Hotel Miri.

He said that being able to return to the familiar and warm Pei Min family, participate in the 65th anniversary celebration and serve as the guest of honor, filled him with gratitude and emotion.

"Sixty-five years, for a school, is a substantial and precious history; for every Pei Min person, it is an inseparable sentiment and cherished memory."

Reviewing the school's development history, he pointed out that from the difficult pioneering stage in its founding years to today’s ever-improving education standards and abundance of talents, it has all been the result of the dedication and hard work of countless predecessors, board members, teachers, and alumni.

"As a member of Pei Min, I deeply understand that every step of our alma mater's growth has not come easily, and thus I cherish all the achievements gained today even more."

Lai Guobao also fondly recalled campus life as a student, including the tranquil atmosphere upon entering campus in the early morning, classmates focusing attentively in classrooms, youthful vigor on the playing field, and the collective memories created by assemblies and activities in the auditorium.

He said that every blade of grass and every brick on campus witnesses the growth of students and carries the youth and dreams of generations of Pei Min people.

"These seemingly ordinary campus environments have subtly shaped our character and become an important foundation for us as we enter society."

Speaking on the theme of this anniversary, 'Pei Min United · Inheritance and Innovation', Lai Guobao considered it very appropriate and full of contemporary significance.

He said, "Pei Min United" speaks of cohesion; without the unity of the board, the selfless dedication of teachers, the strong support from alumni, and the collective efforts of students, the school could not have developed in the long term.

As for 'Inheritance and Innovation', it reminds everyone to cherish tradition, hold to our original aspiration, and at the same time dare to break through and innovate, so that Pei Min Middle School can keep advancing amid the new wave of education.

Standing at this important 65th anniversary milestone, Lai Guobao hopes the board will continue to steadily lead the school’s development, that the administrative team and all faculty will maintain their enthusiasm for education and nurture more outstanding students of both character and learning, with a vision for the times.

He also hopes that all alumni, no matter where they are, will continue to care for their alma mater and support the school’s development in various ways. Meanwhile, he encouraged current students to cherish the precious time for learning and growing, seize opportunities, and strive hard, so that they may give back to their alma mater and contribute to society in the future.

In addition, the event presented the “Distinguished Alumni Contribution Award” to Dato’ Sri Lai Guobao, to recognize his long-term support and contributions to his alma mater's development.
