(Miri, 14th) Miri Mayor and Piasau Constituency State Assemblywoman, Yii Xiao Shan, stated that martial arts is not only a sporting activity, but also plays an active role in shaping the character of young people, cultivating discipline, and fostering community cohesion, contributing to the positive development of society.

She made this statement in her speech at the "5th Miri Soo Bahk Do Competition" organized by Miri Soo Bahk Do Studio yesterday. As she was unable to attend in person, her speech was delivered by her assistant, Hiew Hun Yang.

This event was held successfully, attracting participants of all ages, and fully demonstrated the discipline, skills, and values emphasized by Soo Bahk Do, including character development, leadership, respect, and perseverance.

The event was also supported by the mayor's special assistant, Hiew Hun Yang, who represented the mayor and conveyed her congratulations to the organizers for the successful event. He also recognized the important role martial arts play in youth development, character building, and promoting community unity. In addition, he expressed the mayor's support for Miri's continued development as a destination for sports and international events.
俞小珊市长讲稿由助理许勋扬代读,强调武术对青年品格培养的重要性。

The Miri Soo Bahk Do Studio has seen steady development in recent years, and currently has over 200 local and Bruneian students, making it one of the most active martial arts organizations in the region.

The group has been recognized by the World Moo Duk Kwan since 1997, highlighting its commitment to maintaining international standards, preserving traditional martial arts spirit, and nurturing local and international talent.

Miri will host the 60th Anniversary Celebration of World Moo Duk Kwan Malaysia and the Southeast Asia Leadership Seminar (SEALS) in August of 2027. Malaysia is also considered the birthplace of SEALS. Since its founding in Miri in 1997, this platform has been dedicated to promoting regional martial arts leadership, technical development, and collaborative exchange.

In addition, Miri will also host a 7-day International Master Dan Promotion Test (Ko Dan Ja Shim Sa), which is expected to attract martial arts masters, coaches, and students from multiple countries, promoting international exchange and technical improvement.

It is understood that hosting the above international events will not only boost Miri's international reputation, but will also further promote cultural exchange, leadership development, and cooperation in martial arts.

These activities are not only important milestones in celebrating the 60th anniversary of World Moo Duk Kwan Malaysia, but also a great opportunity to showcase Miri to the international martial arts community. We look forward to welcoming participants from all over the world to share in the spirit and tradition of Soo Bahk Do together.
