According to Chinese media reports, China's Ministry of Public Security has escorted Li Xiong, a core member of the Chen Zhi criminal group, back to China from Phnom Penh, Cambodia.

China Central Television News reported on the 1st that, with strong support from the relevant departments in Cambodia, the Ministry of Public Security sent a working group that successfully escorted Li Xiong, a key member of the Chen Zhi criminal group, back to the country from Phnom Penh. The report stated: “This is yet another major achievement of China-Cambodia law enforcement cooperation.”

According to the report, investigations show that Li Xiong once served as Chairman of the Huiwang Group under Prince Group, and is suspected of running illegal casinos, fraud, illegal business operations, and concealing and covering up criminal proceeds, among other crimes. Currently, Li Xiong has been placed under compulsory measures according to law, and related cases are under further investigation.

An official from the Ministry of Public Security stated that several key members of the Chen Zhi criminal group have already been brought to justice, and public security authorities will continue to intensify efforts to apprehend fugitives and bring them to justice. The official also once again warned criminals to recognize the situation, turn themselves in before it is too late, and strive for lenient treatment.

In January this year, Chen Zhi, the founder and chairman of Cambodia’s Prince Group, who was involved in telecom fraud and money laundering activities, was arrested and extradited to China for investigation. This series of cases has revealed a massive transnational criminal empire involving assets worth tens of billions of US dollars.
