TVBS reality show "Celebrity Production Company" recently held a fan meet-and-greet, but an unexpected incident occurred during preparations. Taiwanese star Huang Weijin, while handling a party popper prop, accidentally pointed the popper towards Yang Mingwei. When it went off unexpectedly, it hit Yang in the face. The footage was released online, sparking heated discussion among netizens. Some praised Yang Mingwei’s calm reaction, while others pointed out how dangerous the situation was.
Huang Weijin immediately apologized to Yang Mingwei at the scene. Fortunately, Yang was not seriously injured, only sustaining a minor bruise on his face and remained in good spirits. However, as the video continued to spread online, public criticism intensified, prompting Huang Weijin to release another statement to clarify and apologize again.
He emphasized that the two of them were preparing props for filming, not horsing around. “We were removing the outer plastic wrapping from the party popper to make it easier to use during filming.” He explained that the twisting motion seen in the video was their attempt to spin off the outer plastic wrap, and that they had already succeeded once before, which is why he tried it a second time—unexpectedly triggering the popper.
Huang Weijin admitted that he had not been vigilant enough about the safety mechanism of the party popper. “I didn’t know just a tiny twist could set it off. I lacked that sense of crisis, and that’s my fault.” He also stressed that there was never any intent to prank or play a joke, further revealing that he had repeatedly checked on Yang Mingwei’s condition throughout the day after the incident. Even though Yang reassured him it was nothing serious, Huang continued to feel guilty, worrying that there could be delayed symptoms. “It wasn’t until we filmed the post-event interviews that evening and confirmed Mingwei was OK, that things relaxed a bit.” He even kept apologizing to Yang during the wrap party.
