Israel's far-right Finance Minister Smotrich welcomes U.S. President Trump's proposal to 'empty' Gaza.
On the 26th, he said in a statement: 'Helping them (the Palestinians) to find another place to start a better life is a good idea. After glorifying terrorism for many years, they can establish a new and beautiful life elsewhere.'
He indicated that he would cooperate with Prime Minister Netanyahu and the cabinet to ensure that an action plan for implementing the proposal is formulated as soon as possible.
Hamas Strongly Opposes
Meanwhile, Hamas issued a statement strongly opposing Trump's proposal.
The statement said Trump's proposal is an 'aggressive plan' aimed at expelling the Palestinian people and undermining the Palestinian national cause.
The statement emphasized that Palestinians resolutely oppose any form of 'expulsion plan' and are committed to safeguarding Palestinian lands and maintaining Palestinian historical rights.
The statement called on the United States to stop supporting policies that violate Palestinian rights in favor of Israel.
The Islamic Jihad Organization in Gaza also condemned Trump's proposal, stating that the plan would force the people of Gaza to leave their land, 'falling under the category of inciting war crimes and crimes against humanity.'
On the 25th, Trump proposed relocating the Palestinian residents of Gaza to Egypt and Jordan.
He told reporters on Air Force One: 'I hope Egypt and Jordan can take in some people. We're talking about possibly 1.5 million people, we'll just have to completely empty the entire place. You know, many conflicts have occurred there for centuries. I don't know, but something has to be done. Only by breaking conventions and proposing new solutions can we bring about methods of peace and security.'
He stated that the settlement could either be temporary or long-term.
According to U.N. statistics, there are already about 2.3 million registered Palestinian refugees in Jordan.
