Bandar Seri Begawan Cracks Down on Illegal Dumping – Fines Up to $30,000

(Bandar Seri Begawan, 30th) The Bandar Seri Begawan Municipal Department's enforcement unit discovered two violations during routine inspections conducted between June 16 and 20.

In the first case, two individuals were found dumping food waste and miscellaneous items beside a commercial building at Kampong Batu Bersurat.

In the second case, a company was found dumping discarded pallet wood and paint cans beside a commercial building and along the public road at Kampong Belait.
The enforcement unit has fined the individuals and the company involved under the provisions of Section 12(1)(a) and (e) of the Illegal Land Use Act (Chapter 30).

Meanwhile, the department reminds the public, companies, and shop owners not to litter, stack, dump, or leave any kind of trash, liquids, or commercial waste in any public place, as this contravenes Section 12(1) of the Littering Act (Chapter 30).

Failure to maintain environmental cleanliness, upon conviction, carries a maximum fine of $30,000, and/or imprisonment of up to 12 months.
If any cleanliness-related violations are discovered within the jurisdiction of the Johor Commercial Promotion Board, the public, companies, and shop owners may submit complaints or provide information to the enforcement unit by calling the hotline at +673 7291122.
