(Bandar Seri Begawan, 10th) Nearly 30 teachers from Brunei Chung Hwa School Kindergarten held two professional development trainings at the end of May this year, simultaneously advancing home-school co-education and digital teaching reform. The aim of the activities was to achieve a comprehensive upgrade of educational assessment through in-depth application of the new "Student Handbook" and enhancement of artificial intelligence (AI) skills.
It is reported that from 2025 onwards, the kindergarten has fully implemented the new version of the "Student Handbook." While retaining the original academic assessments, the new handbook innovatively adds “Domain Development Assessment.” This covers six areas: language and literacy ability, mathematics, social and emotional development, motor skills development, world exploration, aesthetic and creative expression, and life skill application/practice, striving to record children’s growth trajectories in a more comprehensive and multi-dimensional way.
It is worth mentioning that the handbook specially includes wonderful color pages of children’s school life. Vivid color photos allow parents to intuitively understand their children's classroom participation, play interactions, and activity experiences at the kindergarten, effectively bridging the gap between home and school and uniting educational efforts.
To ensure the efficient implementation of the new handbook, on May 22, under the guidance of Acting Principal Du Xiuying, the kindergarten carried out a special operations training. The training focused on the application of the new School Board system, guiding teachers to master data entry, editing, and management processes of the student handbook, thus achieving systematization and standardization of assessment work.
The next day (May 23), the kindergarten also held a special training themed "AI Illuminates the Kindergarten Classroom," presented by acting elementary assistant principal Su Qiaohan. The course focused on the practical application of artificial intelligence (AI) in teaching scenarios, aiming to improve teachers' digital teaching capabilities.
During the training, teachers personally experienced several cutting-edge AI tools such as PowerPoint, Canva, NotebookLM, and Heygen. Through hands-on practice, teachers learned how to use AI to quickly generate vivid teaching presentations, interactive teaching materials, and multimedia videos, and to efficiently organize teaching resources and inspire teaching ideas with the help of AI technology, significantly improving lesson preparation efficiency and classroom engagement.
Principal Xu Yuelan attended the above activities. She encouraged all kindergarten teachers to actively embrace the global trend of integrating technology with education, continuously refine their professional skills, and create a richer, more inspiring learning environment for children.
This series of trainings not only strengthened the foundation for the implementation of the new student handbook, but also marked a solid step for the BCHS Kindergarten in promoting the deep integration of smart education and holistic child development. The Kindergarten will continue to uphold the "child-centered" educational philosophy and promote the deep integration of smart education and holistic development.
