The police, through the Bukit Aman Integrity and Standard Compliance Department (JIPS), will investigate the officers involved in the Zahra Kalina case, including their supervisors.
Director of the Integrity and Standard Compliance Department, Dato’ Hansa Ahmad, said this includes a thorough review of the investigation work for the 13-year-old student’s death, to determine whether any investigation procedures were violated.
When questioned today (14th), he said: “The investigation is still ongoing.”
When asked whether the investigation also involves the District Criminal Investigation Department Chief (KBSJD) and the District Police Chief as supervisors, Hansa said all parties involved are still under investigation.
According to media reports, Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department Director Dato’ M. Kuma stated yesterday that the Bukit Aman task force’s investigation found non-compliance with investigative procedures in the Zahra Kalina case, and therefore severe action will be taken against the investigators as well as their superiors.
M. Kuma said the task force investigation began on the 11th of this month, and initial findings revealed that investigators had failed to comply with procedures and had not applied for the autopsy process.
The Attorney General’s Chambers yesterday issued a statement announcing the convening of an inquest to determine the cause of death of Zahra Kalina, a Form One student at a religious school in Papar, Sabah.
The Chambers stated that after reviewing the investigation report submitted by the police, they decided to convene an inquest under the provisions of Section 339(1) of the Criminal Procedure Code.
