A man in Shenzhen, China, set fire to a street vendor’s large bunch of balloons on Lunar New Year's Eve; all the balloons were instantly destroyed, and the perpetrator was criminally detained for causing trouble while intoxicated.
Videos circulating online show a vendor who has parked a tricycle on the roadside, with a large bunch of balloons tied to it, waiting to be sold. A passing man dressed in black suddenly uses a lighter to ignite the balloons, causing massive flames to erupt and instantly destroying all the balloons and the tricycle.
According to Jimu News, eyewitness Ms. Wang said, “It gave everyone nearby a huge scare at the time. Fortunately, no one was injured.” On the evening of December 31, 2025, at 11:00 p.m., she and her friends went to the Wanda Plaza near Lilang Road in Longgang District, Shenzhen, to celebrate New Year's Eve. There, they witnessed the man lighting the balloons with a lighter.
According to The First Scene, a program of Shenzhen Radio, Film, and Television Group Urban Channel, the incident occurred next to the South China Fire and Rescue Station of the Longgang Fire Brigade in Shenzhen. Firefighters immediately used extinguishers to put out the flames, and no one was injured. The man involved has been criminally detained by police on charges of causing trouble under the influence of alcohol.
