The Kenya Space Agency (KSA) confirmed that a village in the southern part of the country was reportedly hit by space debris, with a metal ring approximately 2.4 meters in diameter and weighing about 500 kilograms falling from the sky. The agency is actively investigating in collaboration with local government.
Metal Ring Suspected to be Rocket Separation Ring
The space debris fell into Mukuku village in Makueni County on the afternoon of December 30, 2024. The Kenya Space Agency's preliminary assessment indicates that the fallen object is a rocket separation ring and poses no safety threat to the public.
In a statement, the Kenya Space Agency mentioned that this is an isolated incident. The agency has already retrieved the metal debris and is working with local government to investigate the exact source of the space debris, while also commending the villagers for promptly reporting to the authorities.
