Due to the risk of the lid forcefully popping off, Walmart in the United States is recalling its own brand Ozark Trail 64-ounce stainless steel thermos bottle, with 850,000 units recalled so far.
The thermos bottles were manufactured in China, with model number 83-662 indicated on the product packaging, and come with a black integrated screw-on lid.
The affected bottles have been sold at Walmart stores across the U.S. since 2017, at a retail price of about $15 (around 64 Malaysian ringgit). The side of the bottle bears the Ozark Trail logo, but there is no model number shown on the bottle itself. The recall number for the product is 25-377.
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) pointed out that when food, carbonated drinks, or perishable beverages such as juice or milk are stored in the bottle for a period of time, opening the lid may cause it to pop off forcefully.
Walmart has so far received three reports of consumers being injured in the face by the bottle lid, with authorities revealing that two of them have suffered permanent vision loss as a result.
Walmart stated that the health and safety of customers is always the company’s top priority, and the company will fully cooperate with the CPSC to carry out the recall. The product has already been removed from shelves and consumers have been notified.
