At a municipal elementary school in Ishioka City, Ibaraki Prefecture, Japan, during a sixth-grade health check in May this year, several female students were reportedly told by their female homeroom teacher to remove their underwear before the checkup and then returned to class with only a white sports shirt over their bodies, attending class together with male students. The school has since issued an apology.
According to the Yomiuri Shimbun, during the health check on May 27, the sixth-grade students were scheduled to go in turn to the examination hall during the fifth period. However, the female homeroom teacher in the class in question called the girls to the school infirmary during lunch break and told them to take off their bras and any camisoles with chest pads, in other words, all their underwear.
Following the teacher’s instructions, the girls returned to the classroom wearing only a white sports top without any undergarments and had to awkwardly endure the boys’ whispering and comments during the fifth period, until it was their turn for the health check.
It is understood that, as per the original procedure, the girls were supposed to only remove their underwear when they were called for their turn at the checkup, but the homeroom teacher evidently made a mistake. The 43-year-old mother of one of the affected girls expressed her anger, saying the school should be protecting children, and she never expected them to make such an outrageous mistake.
