(Seria, 5th) The 11th World Liu Clan Global Gathering was grandly held at Siam Paragon, Bangkok, Thailand from May 2 to 5, 2026, with over 700 Liu surname representatives from around the world participating in the event.
Led by Dr. Liu Shiquan, head of the Brunei Liu Clan Association, a delegation consisting of Liu Zaisheng, Liu Kunzhang, and Huang Zhiping, upon invitation, traveled to Bangkok, Thailand to attend the 11th World Liu Clan Gathering. There, they joined Liu clan elders and representatives from across the globe to explore the path of Han cultural heritage and discuss long-term development.
The Liu surname is among the major surnames of Chinese heritage. According to 2026 statistics from relevant authorities, Liu ranks 4th among all surnames in China, with a total population of about 72 million. Including overseas Chinese and diaspora, the global Liu population approaches 80 million.
Hosted by the World Liu Clan Association, the 11th World Liu Clan Gathering's theme was “Seeking Liu Roots, Connecting the World.” It attracted Liu clan representatives from dozens of countries and regions worldwide. The event was on a grand scale, with an enthusiastic atmosphere, uniting Liu clan members in Bangkok to foster family ties, inherit Chinese heritage, and promote cooperative development.
On the afternoon of May 2, more than 700 Liu surname representatives from across the world gradually checked in on the fifth floor of the Siam Paragon, a famed Bangkok landmark. Liu clan members from Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, Brunei, as well as Hong Kong, Taiwan, Guangdong, Henan, Sichuan, Hunan, Hubei and other places, entered the venue in succession.
This magnificent event was a journey of clan root-seeking, and more so, a valuable opportunity to connect elite Liu clan members globally and expand international high-profile networks. Liu elites from around the globe gathered to exchange ideas, deepen business cooperation, seek the spiritual roots of Han culture, strengthen clan ties, and promote Han culture together.
Dr. Liu Jiwei, the 28th President of the Thailand Liu Clan Association (to take office in July 2025) and the 11th President of the World Liu Clan Association, recounted the history of the Thailand Liu Clan Association in his speech, highlighted Princess Sirindhorn’s outstanding contribution to Thai-Chinese friendship, acknowledged the great support given to the Thailand Liu Clan Association, discussed the origins of this gathering, and shared heartfelt remarks.
The Chairman of the World Liu Clan Association, His Excellency Dato Liu Limin, said in his address that the Liu family originates from the Central Plains, flourished in the Han Dynasty, and that Liu clan members are connected at the root, with their peak in moments of revival. He introduced the founding history of the World Liu Clan Association, described its positive influence in connecting the clan and promoting the glory of the Liu name, and extended thanks to Thailand for successfully hosting this gathering.
Wu Zhiwu, Minister of the Chinese Embassy in Thailand, delivered a speech introducing China’s current situation, Sino-Thai economic and trade ties, and traditional friendship. He recognized the outstanding contributions of the Liu clan to human societal development and extended warm congratulations to the event.
