(Long Lama, 22nd) The town of Long Lama is actively preparing for the upcoming Baram Cultural Festival 2026, which is expected to attract around 6,000 visitors from May 22 to 23, showcasing the rich cultural heritage of Baram's diverse communities.
This event is organized by the Sarawak Kenyah Association, with support from the Ministry of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts (MTCP) as well as the local Baram community.
Telang Usan state assemblyman Dennis Ngau stated that the community stalls have begun operating on Wednesday (May 20), creating a lively atmosphere in the town.
He said: "These community stalls are an important component of the festive mood and also help to stimulate the local economy."
"The stalls offer a variety of food, beverages, and local products for visitors to purchase." He wrote on Facebook, as reported by the Sarawak Public Communications Unit.
As chairman of the Sarawak Tourism Board, Dennis Ngau pointed out that the main highlight of this festival is the speedboat competition.
The competition will attract participants from Brunei, Kuching, and Sibu, with total prizes and trophies amounting to RM62,000.
Besides the speedboat race, the event will also feature the “Asen Food Competition” and a range of traditional sporting events.
For the evening programs, there will be the male and female Nyivan Sin competitions, the Datun Julud dance competition, as well as the 'Baram Mom Beauty Pageant (Ratu Ibu Baram)'.
To further enhance the festive atmosphere, the organizers will also arrange performances by invited artists every night during the festival.
Dennis Ngau stated that the cultural festival is significant in showcasing Baram’s unique multi-ethnic culture and also helps to strengthen ties within the community.
He called on the public to come to Long Lama this weekend to participate in various festival activities.
