(Bandar Seri Begawan, 16th) A fire broke out last Sunday in the kitchen area of a building in Batu Bersurat. Fortunately, a worker at the scene took swift action and successfully extinguished the blaze before firefighters arrived, preventing the disaster from escalating.
According to the Fire and Rescue Department (FRD), after receiving an emergency call, the authorities immediately dispatched two fire engines from the Beribi and Balakas Fire Stations, sending a total of 12 firefighters to the scene. The operation was led by Assistant Fire Station Chief Rafi.
Upon arrival, the firefighters found the kitchen area on the first floor of the building filled with thick smoke. However, the fire had already been successfully extinguished by the on-site worker, Susie Mo, using two 2kg dry powder fire extinguishers.
To ensure the safety of the scene, firefighters subsequently donned breathing apparatus to enter the kitchen for inspection and conducted ventilation work to evacuate the remaining smoke inside. An additional support team from the Balakas Fire Station also helped open windows to improve ventilation and checked for any potential fire sources.
Currently, the cause of the fire and the amount of damage are still under investigation. No injuries or fatalities occurred in the incident.
The Fire and Rescue Department also reminded the public to regularly check electrical appliances and kitchen equipment to ensure they are in safe operating condition. Meanwhile, the public is urged to keep fire extinguishers at home or business premises to enable timely emergency response in the early stages of a fire.
