(Bandar Seri Begawan, 9th) The 14th ASEAN School Games (ASG14) will be held from November 20 to 28, 2025, with delegations from 10 countries participating, including host Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam.
This edition features eight events: badminton, basketball, athletics, swimming, netball, Indonesian martial arts (Pencak Silat), sepak takraw, and wushu.
To mark the occasion, Brunei’s Ministry of Education, through the Schools’ Sports Council Secretariat, held a flag handover ceremony in the courtyard of Brunei Sports School, presenting the national flag to the delegation participating in ASG14 2025.
Minister of Education Dr. Romaizah attended as the guest of honor.
Director of the Co-curricular Education Department, Mr. Zulaikhi—who is also Chairman and Secretary General of the School Sports Association Council—emphasized in his speech that a total of 138 student athletes and 68 officials will represent the School Sports Association at this championship.
He added that in addition to continuous training, student athletes would also have opportunities to participate in national, regional, and international sporting events to prepare for this championship.
He explained these participations and experiences not only aim to improve students’ athletic skills but also to nurture their fighting spirit, discipline, and high self-confidence—traits that are essential in outstanding student athletes.
“I hope our student athletes not only strive for excellence on the field, but also prove that hard work, passion, and perseverance can realize this great dream,” he said.
He further advised student athletes to always remain focused on their goals, to train diligently, and to turn every challenge into an opportunity for self-improvement.
The ceremony continued with the honorary guest handing over the National Development Agency’s flag to Assistant Director of Co-curricular Education, Ms. Norilham, who also serves as delegation leader.
At the end of the ceremony, the guest of honor warmly interacted with officials and student athletes, encouraging them and cheering them on for the upcoming competition.
Also present at the ceremony were Permanent Secretary (Higher Education) Mr. Azman and Permanent Secretary (Basic Education) Ms. Shamsiah from the Ministry of Education; Mr. Hasnan bin Pengiran Haji, Permanent Secretary (Culture) from the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports; deputy permanent secretaries; as well as heads and officials from the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports.
