Amid escalating tensions at the Thai-Cambodian border, Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet held another phone conversation with Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar on the afternoon of the 14th to discuss how to prevent the situation from worsening and to avoid the outbreak of new military conflict.

According to the Khmer-China Times, this is the second consecutive day Hun Manet has spoken with Anwar. On the 13th, they already discussed the same topic, and on that day Anwar also spoke with Thai Prime Minister Anutin.

On Facebook on the 14th, Hun Manet wrote that he had an in-depth exchange with Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar on continuing to resolve the Cambodia-Thailand border dispute through peaceful means.

“I expressed my sincere thanks to Prime Minister Anwar, appreciating the important and proactive role he has played in coordinating and promoting both Cambodia and Thailand to seek solutions through peaceful means.”

He emphasized that Cambodia will always insist on handling border issues through peaceful means, relying on existing mechanisms and mutual consensus, especially following the Cambodia-Thailand peace agreement signed in Kuala Lumpur on October 26, and making efforts to bring a complete end to the border dispute and consolidate and build peace between the two countries.

According to previous reports, on Wednesday (the 12th) afternoon, Thai and Cambodian troops exchanged fire in the border area of Koson District, Sa Kaeo Province, Thailand. Cambodia accused Thai troops of opening fire at the border, causing 1 death and 3 injuries, and evacuated nearby residents. Thailand, meanwhile, refuted that claim, asserting that Cambodian troops fired first.
